Tool Recommendations
These are the tools I use and recommend. Links go directly to where I'd buy them.
-
This is my most-used garden tool. I used to use my hori-hori all the time, but was introduced to this tool and it saves my wrist.
-
While my Lesche has overtaken most of the hori-hori's duties, this digging knife is great to have on hand for cutting, sawing, getting at roots, or dividing perennials. Be careful, knife is not a euphemism — I've sliced my hands several times.
-
Great weeding tool for when you have a bunch of shallow-rooted weeds that you want to disturb quickly; also good for loosening soil in a root ball of a weed you're removing or something you're planting.
-
These are great for pruning sharpie-sized branches, cutting back perennials, lots of garden tasks. Keep them clean and they will stay sharp.
-
I use these to cut flowers, herbs, more delicate work that I use my pruners for.
-
LoppersI don't have my favorite loppers yet because I find myself using either my felcos or my pruning saw. Maybe I should have loppers. Maybe so should you. I think they're optional.
-
This is a splurge item, but I love it. You can dig a nice hole without standing up. Not strictly necessary, but nice to have.
-
You can use lots of things in lieu of this bag, but it is nice to have. A 5 gallon bucket also works. You use it for throwing weeds into and then carrying them to your compost pile.
-
Tool BeltThis is how I like to carry my most-used tools around the garden. An old belt — Goodwill, if you don't have one you want to thrash — to hold the tools.
